A few months ago, I revealed my 20 favorite European hotel rooms. In that post, I estimated that in the last four years I’ve slept in over 150 different luxury hotels and experienced well over 300 in the form of spa treatments, dining, drinking, and touring. Don’t believe me? I’ve got a big box full of little toiletries to prove it.
Although most of my travels have been European, I’ve also stayed in many lovely properties on the other side of the pond from Canada all the way to Argentina. So, whether city, mountain, or beach, here are my eight favorite hotel rooms spanning North and South America.
St. Regis Aspen
Winter in Aspen draws the rich, famous, and, well, me. A pristine blanket of fresh powder greeted me at the St. Regis, along with a decadent mug of hot chocolate and a room that I didn’t want to leave. A comfy faux fur blanket and motion-activated bathroom night light still stand out in my mind. Oh, and the Bloody Mary.

Four Seasons Resort Lanai
Well, a view over the Pacific in a shack would be a treat, but a recently remodeled room at Four Seasons Lanai is the ultimate. Larry Ellison, the billionaire co-founder of Oracle, owns the island of Lanai and the Four Seasons, transforming it from the world’s largest pineapple plantation into a glorious and secluded Hawaiian destination. My Four Seasons room was one of the most technology-advanced ones I’ve seen, with a programmable, motion-activated toilet. Clearly, I have a thing for motion-activated amenities.
I can’t say enough about my room. A massive, custom-made TV, iPad, and a toilet so advanced I’d need an extra night to figure it out, are just a few of the techie features. Beyond that, it was just beautifully decorated, and the view over the Pacific wasn’t bad either. This property is one of my favorites, not just in the Americas, but the world.

Viceroy Snowmass
Aspen’s neighbor, Snowmass, doesn’t get the glamorous press, but the vibe is no less impressive. You can’t get any better than the location of Viceroy Snowmass. It’s ski-in-ski-out with one of the chair lifts practically goes over the hotel. I stayed in a massive two-bedroom residence that overlooked the outdoor heated pool and the Rockies. The fireplace, terraces, and sunset were just a few of the things that I remember about this stay.

Four Seasons Punta Mita
Sun, sand and Four Seasons are three of my favorite things. Put all three in a Mexico setting and I’m smitten. Just 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta in Mexico’s smallest state, Four Seasons Punta Mita is a dream. Open the massive doors to the beachfront terrace and allow the salty ocean air to cure what ails. If that doesn’t work, the margarita making welcome gift should.

Imanta Resort
THIS PLACE pretty much left me speechless. After a ten-minute, dirt road drive through the jungles of Mexico, I reached Imanta Resort and my 2,500 square-foot oceanfront villa. The small resort is built into the mountains using elements found on property. It’s so secluded there are no locks on the doors. Actually, there really aren’t doors, just sliding panels to keep out the critters. Views of the Pacific were best from my bed. Well, maybe the terrace next to my private infinity pool. No, definitely the views were best on my rooftop, king-sized daybed. Seriously, THIS PLACE.

Four Seasons Toronto
Toronto is the home of Four Seasons, so it comes as no surprise that this property is simply gorgeous. In the swank neighborhood of Yorkville, Four Seasons Toronto is 55 storeys of luxury. The hotel closed for a major facelift, but reopened in 2012 and has since received all sorts of well-deserved accolades. My room was chic, with state-of-the-art technology. And the bathroom…my goodness, that bathroom made my heart happy.

Four Seasons Buenos Aires
Honestly, I love the lobby, bar, and restaurant at the Four Seasons Buenos Aires more than any other city hotel. Remodeled in 2012 and 2013, the nod to the Argentine culture is apparent in the blue palate and polo-themed bar. There’s even a signature scent created by a local perfumer. All of that aside, I adored my junior suite and the view over the historic mansion, garden, pool, and glass dome that sits above the Elena restaurant.

Oasis Apartment in Recoleta
OK, so it’s not a hotel, but I can’t not mention this Oasis Collections apartment located in the fancy La Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires. I’ve stayed in plenty of flats while traveling, but this is the first time I felt the design was ripped directly from my mind.
